Jason Williams, who used to talk frequently of his desire for Duke to "murder" an opponent, or who described a big win as a "murder," has had his picture flashed to millions of Americans, many of whom will now think that he is a killer. We're expecting E-mail from people asking why Duke plays a killer.
It's unfathomable to us how a serious organization like NBC (as opposed to one, like, say, us) could make this kind of a mistake. Yes, Jason Williams gets his name all over the place. But so does the NBA's other Jason Williams, the guard for the Grizzlies.
Aside from all that, Jayson Williams played for the Nets and lives not all that far, really, from the NBC studios. He is a prominent figure in that area. You'd think that someone, fact checker aside, would have enough awareness to spot the difference.
Fortunately, the obvious nature of the mistake, and Jason's sterling character, make this as much a joke as anything. But still - NBC really should be more careful, and they should definitely apologize. That's a pretty pathetic mistake, and they certainly have the resources to have gotten that straight.
