Maryland 'Backer Gets an Offer

Often in recruiting it is crucial to get in on a hot prospect before he explodes. Duke has done just that with yet another Maryland athlete. received a phone call Wednesday morning from a high school coach informing us that his standout linebacker had just received a verbal offer from the several programs.

After stellar performances at the All-American Combine (Duke) and the Elite College Combine, Gaithersburg (Md.) Quince Orchard linebacker Bani Gbadyu, 6-foot-1 and 200 pounds, is watching his stock rise dramatically. Quince Orchard coach Dave Mencarini gave an update on his protégé's latest offers.

“Since the combines, Oklahoma, Penn State, Clemson, Duke, Syracuse, Marshall, and Indiana have all called and said scholarships are on the way,” Mencarini said. “He has written offers from Boston College, Akron and Kent State.”

The offers won't stop there according to Mencarini; he is expecting a few more to become official any day now.

“I have a strong feeling Michigan State and Nebraska may offer soon,” Mencarini said.

In 2004, Gbadyu was named honorable mention All-State, first-team All-League, and first team All-County. He recorded 78 tackles, 15 sacks and three fumble recoveries. As Quince Orchard's back-up tailback, he ran for 387 yards and scored five touchdowns.
