While the hoops staff had good news in 3s, the football staff pulled in a big fish too as one of Florida's top 100 prospects decided to become a Blue Devil on Wednesday night.
While we are used to reading about Duke
landing big time recruits in basketball, that hasn't always been the case with football. Coach Ted Roof
and his staff helped change that last year by signing some of the top players in the country including Vince Oghobaase
and Ayanga Okpokowuruk
. Duke has gotten off to a fast start again by landing a commitment from one of the top big athletes in the state of Florida.
The Blue Devils got a commitment last night from Tyler Rice of St. Andrews in Boca Raton, Florida. The 6-foot-4, 239 pound linebacker had over 100 tackles last season. He was hearing from University of Florida and Florida State. Rice had offers from Northwestern, Duke and Rutgers. There is no doubt that Duke just pulled in a major surprise with this commitment.
Rice is going to be a member of the soon to be released South Hot 100 by Scout.com. He is a huge linebacker in high school that projects as a defensive end on the college level.
