Devils Offer Hidden Gem of a TE

Zach Meagher, one of the better midwest tight end prospects, has a Duke offer

May is a big evaluation time for college coaches and recruiting analyst's alike, we see many of the top players, and we find some hidden gems along the way. Cincinnati (Ohio.) Glen Este tight end Zach Meagher (6-5, 245, 4.7) fits into both categories. A double-digit offer sheet and an impressive film make him a top prospect. The fact that he has done it all very quietly slides him into that uncovered gem category.

"I now have offers from Oklahoma, Louisville, Duke, Michigan State, Cincinnati, Akron, Toledo, Northwestern, Minnesota, and Miami (Ohio.)," Meagher said.

There are a number of teams showing interest in Meagher including Boston College, Indiana, Marshall, Notre Dame, Syracuse, and Iowa. The athletic tight end has taken a number of unofficial visits.

Cincinnati: "I went to a junior day their when they had the Cross-Town Shootout versus Xavier. I spoke with the tight ends Coach [Mark] Staten and Head Coach [Mark] Dantonio. All of the coaches are really cool, but I really didn't get a lot of one-on-one time with them."

Ohio State: "I liked the program and the facilities, it kind of seemed like they liked certain kids and that's who they talked to."

Notre Dame: "It was cool, they have really nice facilities. We walked through a tunnel lined by cheerleaders as we went into see the basketball game Notre Dame against UCLA. Coach Weis spoke to us, then they split us up by position and we spoke with a position coach."

Michigan State: "It was freaking awesome, they made you feel like a celebrity. We got the chance to take a tour of the facilities. I had the chance to talk to Coach [Mike] Cox he recruits the Cincinnati area, and Tight Ends Coach [Mike] Baldwin."

One thing is for certain, any school that Meagher chooses to attend will have to meet his academic criteria.

"The school will have to have a strong pre-med program, I want to go to medical school,"

Meagher is currently planning on camping at Ohio State this summer; other camp stops could include Duke and Boston College.

As a junior, Meagher caught 21 passes for 358 yards and 5 touchdowns. For his efforts he was named first team All-Conference.
