Catching up with Duke's Newest Commitment

William Ball made a commitment to the Duke Blue Devils on Tuesday of this week, and he talks a little about why he chose to come east from Texas.

"I committed to Duke on Tuesday," said William Ball of Westlake High School in Austin, Texas. "I was being recruited by Coach Scott Brown."

What made him choose the Blue Devils?

"I started looking around at schools, and I went on a visit there. I know Coach Roof is pretty new there. I started looking at their recruiting, and it seems since he got there it's gotten a lot better and is getting even better this year. I think it's a team that can be doing really well in the next two years, and I wanted to be a part of it."

Ball had a good season for his Westlake teams as a junior.

"I had 270 yards on 18 catches. I know that might not sound like big stats, but I led the team in yards, and I think I did in catches too. We ran the ball a lot," Ball said matter-of-factly.

Who else was Ball looking at before settling on Duke?

"I had another offer from Northern Colorado. I had also been looking at Stanford and Texas. I was hurt at the beginning of the summer when Texas was holding its camps, and they committed two tight ends. They talked to me about grey shirting. I thought I might be able to play sooner on a team that was on the upswing at Duke. I was looking at Stanford, and I took a visit out there to see them. After seeing Stanford and Duke, I just felt more comfortable at Duke."

Ball is a quick big man that is being recruited as an H-Back by the Blue Devils.
