Devils Land First 2007 Commitment

Over the summer as the TDD staff was observing the numerous prospects attending the Duke one-day camp, one lineman in particular stood out. Perhaps it was his colorful track shoes. Perhaps it was his genuine work ethic. Or maybe it was a combination of it all that made Doug Weaver such a big time prospect. On Wednesday Weaver's commitment was made public.

"I am committed to Duke and it's a solid commitment," said class of 2007 offensive lineman Doug Weaver. "Part of me committing so early is that I plan to graduate high school a semester early and enroll at Duke in the spring semester."

Attending Person County High, which is close to Durham, Weaver has been able to follow the progress of head coach Ted Roof and his staff as they work to rebuild the Blue Devil program. It was their commitment to that task that peaked his interest.

"Honestly I wasn't all that interested in Duke until I took the time to visit the campus and attend camp this summer. I had a chance to meet the coaching staff and see how hard they work. Coach Yano (Don Yanowski), my recruiting coach, really helped me see that Duke had all the pieces I was looking for."

Weaver reportedly was receiving interest from every high major program in the Carolinas as well as Tennessee. And though he's facing another year of potential recruiting from those other schools, don't expect this 6-foot-7, 290 pounder to renege on his commitment.

"Committing was a big deal for me and it's solid. I'm not changing my mind. I'm a Blue Devil."
