The 6-foot-10 forward, ranked No. 20 in America by Scout.com, has seen two campuses since the summer when he essentially blew up after the Nike Hoop Jamboree.
Maryland received an unofficial visit from Koufos and is a player in his recruitment. "I have a lot of family in Maryland and I always liked them when I was young," Koufos said. "They offered me a full scholarship so I might as well check it out. And, it's in the ACC."
The other program he saw is from the Big Ten and has been on a roll as of late. "Coach Matta and Coach Groce, Coach Major and Coach Peters, they're all cool coaches. I just recently went to the Ohio-State-Texas game and it was unbelievable."
Koufos says the recruiting process is wearing on him a little. "I've been getting calls every day. It's a little out of hand."
In addition to the Buckeyes and Terps, Michigan, Michigan State, Illinois and Duke are some schools that have shown interest and caught his eye in the process. Illinois is coming in this week and Koufus thought Iowa and Michigan State had been in recently as well.
Much has been made about Ohio State because both his parents attended the school. Some think the Buckeyes have the inside track. Koufos admits to really liking OSU but cautions that talk of a commitment might be a little premature though he left the door open a little.
"It's probably not going to happen anytime soon," Koufos said.
