Duke Vs. 'Bama In 2006

DURHAM, N.C. -- Duke has added Alabama to its list of non-conference football opponents for the 2006 campaign, and the Blue Devils will travel to Tuscaloosa to meet the Crimson Tide on Saturday, October 7.

Duke's four non-league foes for next season are Alabama, Navy (Septmber 23 in Durham), Richmond (September 2 in Durham) and Vanderbilt (October 28 in Durham). In ACC action, the Blue Devils host Florida State, Miami, North Carolina and Virginia and travel to Boston College, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.

Duke and Alabama have met twice on the gridiron, with the Blue Devils earning a 29-26 victory in the 1945 Sugar Bowl and the Crimson Tide securing a 35-12 win in Tuscaloosa in 1972. The history between the two schools extends even further, as Hall of Fame head coach Wallace Wade departed Alabama after eight successful seasons to lead the Duke program to national prominence, guiding the Blue Devils to a 16-year mark of 110-36-7, six Southern Conference championships and a pair of Rose Bowl appearances.

After meeting in 2006, the Blue Devils and Crimson Tide will play again in 2010 at a location yet to be determined.
