Of course names like Carl Johnson, Brandon Spikes, Clifton Geathers, and Ricky Sapp seem like sure fire selections, but considering the history of Shrine Bowl selections there are no sure things.

The four aforementioned players will find their names on the 2005 North Carolina or South Carolina roster, but players like Ronnie Tyler, Shaun Draughn, and Kendric Burney weren't so lucky.

The South Carolina Sandlappers are planning to run a wide open offense, and the key position here could be the combination of quarterbacks and wide receivers in an offense patterned after the three-time defending state champions Byrnes Rebels. The offense, directed by Byrnes head coach Bobby Bentley, brings Armanti Edwards and Stan Doolittle as the signal callers, two players that can throw to the tall wide receivers or tuck it and run.

The North Carolina offense plans to use a throwback offense and hope to simply grind out a win in the December match-up. With three of the top players in North Carolina playing the running back position – Norman Whitley, Josh Adams, and Johnny White – look for them to wear out the South Carolina defense in the game.
