Geralds Back From Duke

One of the bigger targets on campus for an official visit last weekend was 6-foot-4, 290 pound Louisiana lineman Daverin Geralds. Despite not offering a verbal commitment to the Blue Devils during or after the visit, the big man says that Duke was "really helped" in his mind over the weekend.

"It was a really great visit to Duke," said Daverin Geralds. "I got to see everything on different tours – the football facilities, the campus, how the classroom atmosphere is. They even let meet with various people in each college. I met a couple of deans and also the President of the University – that was really nice."

But not nice enough to warrant a verbal commitment from Geralds, who says he's still going to take a visit to at least Stanford on January 13th, preceded by a trip the first week of January to either Georgia Tech or Mississippi.

"All of this is trying to get my decision over with by the middle of January. Now that I've seen Duke I want to have something to compare it to."

And how will a school have to compare to the Blue Devils pitch?

"It would have to be really good. Duke really showed me they are serious about building a winning program. A lot of coaches say that when the team hasn't done well, but at Duke you've got the whole school from the president down really taking an active role in it. That's impressive."

Hosted by fellow Louisianan Clifford Harris, Geralds had a chance to sit down with both players and members of the coaching staff to ask anything he wanted.

"The players were easy to get along with and you can tell the young players really believe in things. Cliff was a great host. I also had a chance to talk with the coaches. Coach Roof really impressed me – I can see why all of his players love him. He's a players' coach."

So what were his overall impressions of Duke.

"I'd say they really helped themselves in my mind. I knew a lot about Duke, but now I think I've got the whole picture."
