The Michigan Hurricanes feature Olu Famutimi, Dion Harris and a bevy of stars, but that did not stop undermanned Belmont Shores H-Squad from pulling a 90-80 victory in Cameron Indoor Stadium. In fact, Belmont Shores dressed but seven players for the game, and two fouled out. DeMarcus Nelson (6-3) rising junior from Vallego, California pumped in 31 points.

DeMarcus is a tough guard. That toughness may have come from playing linebacker for his Football team. In fact, he was an All-Area selection as a Quarterback. This enables him to battle down low, as he grabs quite a few boards for a projected point guard. It also makes him hard to get around for opposing guards.

DeMarcus has a super touch from beyond the three point stripe. He can put the ball on the floor for driving dishes or shots and has good defensive footwork. He showed strengths in every aspect of the game today.

So, how is his character? "Sean is actually a better kid than he is a player" said, AAU Coach Rick Isaacs. "He is an outstanding student and comes from a quality, caring family." While watching DeMarcus handle interviews, it was easy to see this.

He is easily one of the best prospects in his class, and one of the best prospects I have seen from California. "He indeed likes Duke," said a source close to Nelson. Well, I am sure the feeling is mutual and that Duke probably likes this kid, too. Other schools pursuing DeMarcus are Arizona, California and Cincinnati.

H-Squad (1-1) took on the Miami Tropics in a 4:40 game in Carmichael Gym this afternoon.

Possible Duke target Olu Famutimi scored only 11 points, and looked sluggish, if not tired. While showing flashes of athletic brilliance, he never got his outside game untracked today. He played much better in a later game in the Dean Dome.
