National Signing Day Looms

Tomorrow is National Signing Day, the biggest football recruiting day of the year, and will have all the bases covered as the Blue Devils look to secure yet another big time recruiting class. Currently Duke sits at No. 40 in the national rankings. However, one late evaluation and one pending commitment could vault head coach Ted Roof's bunch even higher.

Duke will finish off the class of 2006 on a high note after securing a number of big commitments in the last two weeks. Perhaps the top two newest signees are Pontus Bondeson and Marcus Lind, both natives of Sweden. Both have been rated as three star prospects by, though that rating is debatable according to many analysts who felt a fourth star was warranted.

Bondeson, who is coveted by NFL Europe Directors of Player Personel, attended the NFL Europe Youth Camp in Glasgow Scotland in 2004, and was awarded merits as the best Defensive linemen in attendance. Later he played his final junior level season and was named as the best offensive lineman and national player of the year.

Meanwhile, Lind spent most of his career in the shadow of linemantes Sam Young and Daniel Wenger, but emerged as a high major prospect in his own right with offers from several power programs including Auburn, Miami (Fla.), Tennessee, Mississippi, Pittsburg, and North Carolina State.

The two Swedish imports aren't the only big time prospects either. Duke secured commitments from four star defensive end Tyler Rice, four star fullback Brandon King, and the nation's No. 49 tight end prospect, Brett Huffman.

Immediate impacts could be made by players such as Lind, Bondeson, Huffman, and King as well as offensive lineman Jarrod Holt, who is turned down offers from NC State, Clemson, Maryland, and West Virginia. Three star linebacker prospect Vincent Rey is also a candidate to crack the rotation in August.
