08's Babbitt Still Wide Open

Luke Babbit, one of the elite forwards in the class of 2008, has some of the top programs in the country showing early interest in him.

Luke Babbitt, 6-8 SO PF Reno (Nev.) Galena, is a gifted prospect with the ability to play inside and on the perimeter. Babbitt's got a very nice lefty stroke out to the stripe, but also has the toughness and low-post skills to do damage inside. With continued development, we expect Babbitt to be among the top 25 players in the country for 2008.

We spoke with Babbitt yesterday and asked him about the programs that he feels are recruiting him the hardest at this point in time.

"The ones recruiting me the hardest are probably UCLA, Arizona, Washington, Nevada, Duke, Syracuse, Wake Forest and North Carolina State," said Babbitt.

When asked if any schools stand out from the pack, Babbitt replied, "No, I haven't narrowed it down at all yet. I'll probably narrow it down sometime after the summer or next year. I'm taking it slow. I don't want to rush into anything. I've seen kids back out after making a commitment and I want to think it through and make the right decision."

Babbitt previously told us that Nevada, USC and UNLV had offered him a scholarship. When asked if any other schools have formally offered a scholarship, Babbitt said, "No, not formally. It's kind of weird the way they handle that."

We asked Babbitt if he has any unofficial visits planned.

"No, I haven't planned on any unofficial visits," said Babbitt. "I'll go back to the UCLA camp again in June, because I had a great time there last year. So I'll be able to spend time walking around there. But I don't have anything else planned right now, although that could change."

A very good student, Babbitt told us he had a 4.0 GPA this past semester and his overall GPA is 3.9.
