"I played linebacker and fullback last season," Gowins said. "I think that most of the schools that are recruiting me are concentrating on me as a linebacker, but they are also impressed by my abilities on the offensive side of the ball."
Gowins is receiving interest from Central Florida, Syracuse, Maryland, Duke, Virginia, Miami, Temple and Michigan State, and he reports that one school has stepped up with a scholarship offer.
"Central Florida has let me know that they have an offer for me when I get down there. They have told me that they have a spot for me. I am receiving a lot of letters and things like that, but those are the schools that are showing the most interest."
"I would say that Central Florida is probably the school that has set themselves apart. I am really interested in them right now. I went down to Miami's team camp last year and I really enjoyed what I saw of Florida," Gowins explained.
Gowins plans a return trip to Miami to attend one of the senior camp sessions.
"It was such a good trip that I think I will go back down there again this year. I learned a lot, and it was a lot of fun."
As a junior, Gowins reports that he racked up 97 tackles, six sacks, 27 tackles for a loss, and forced five fumbles form his linebacker position. He also rushed for 710 yards and 12 touchdowns as a fullback, while on the way to garnering All-State, All-Division, All-County, and All-Long Island honors.
