Roxboro (NC) Person offensive tackle Doug Weaver committed to Duke last summer, but decided to re-open his recruitment this week, according to his mother, Tammy Weaver.

"Doug de-committed from Duke yesterday," Mrs. Weaver said. "He wants the chance to visit other schools and watch some spring practices.

"The decision to decommit was absolutely gut-wrenching for him. He still loves Duke and the people there."

Don't expect a late decision from Weaver, as he will make a firm decision when the time is right.

"I really don't think he will wait until signing day. He is not flashy with the hats and all that crap, he will commit when he is sure.

"It will probably be in the fall. The next decision will be the final one."

According to Mrs. Weaver, Duke remains in the mix along with NC State, North Carolina, Wake Forest, and Maryland. A trip to Florida is also a possibility.

NC State and Maryland have already offered scholarships, and the Wolfpack appear to be in solid shape.

"NC State is definItely in the mix," Mrs. Weaver said. "He wants to go to their practice.

"He has been going to the NC State Football Camp since he was little. I have pictures of him when he was the same height as Chuck Amato."
