Florida Power Program QB Will Visit

St. Thomas Aquinas' football program yielded one of the top overall players in last year's recruiting class when Marcus Lind committed to Duke. Lind then helped Duke earn another top flight commitment in the form of Pontus Bondesson. The Devils are now hot on the trail of one of STA's best rising senior prospects.

While everyone talks about John Brantley, Stephen Garcia, and others as the state's top quarterback prospect this year, they're overlooking a kid who is pretty darn good himself.

Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas standout Wesley Carroll is coming off an outstanding junior season. While leading his team to the Class 5A state championship game, Carroll threw for 1,700 yards, 29 touchdowns (a school record), against just five interceptions.

"I feel like I'm able to make plays with my feet as well," Carroll said. "And I think I do a good job of not making too many mistakes out there. We have some really good coaches here."

Carroll, 6-foot-2 and 180 pounds, already has four scholarship offers and there will likely be a lot more coming his way later this spring.

"My offers right now are from N.C. State, Mississippi State, Duke, and Central Florida," he said. "I haven't really narrowed anything down as far as choices go. I'm going to wait till a little later to see who all offers. I'm honored to be in this position and I'm interested in all of them."

The talented quarterback has taken one unofficial visit and plans on several more.

"I went down to Miami's Junior Day a few weeks ago," he said. "The new coaches had only been on the job for about two weeks so they were still getting adjusted. I talked to Randy Shannon. I went down there with four teammates. Miami is interested but hasn't offered me. I plan on checking out Mississippi State, N.C. State, and Duke for their spring games."

In the meantime, Carroll's spending a lot of time throwing with his receivers -- including standout Leonard Hankerson -- preparing to return to the 5A title game and to finish it off this season.
