Texas Wideout Looking For Duke Offer

A new name has emerged out of the Dallas metroplex in the form of Plano East athlete Chris Slater, who recently picked up his first offer.

"I recently got my first scholarship offer in the mail from New Mexico State," Slater said. "Tulane, Wyoming, Central Florida and Utah have all called me in the past few weeks.

A lot of schools have come by like Duke, Texas A&M, Vanderbilt, Georgia Tech and Stanford and Oklahoma State's head coach Mike Gundy actually came by."

As a junior Slater carried the ball 43 times for 282 yards and two touchdowns, he also had seven catches for 200 yards and two touchdowns.

"Duke, Stanford, Notre Dame, Vanderbilt and Tulane are probably my top five," Slater said. "I really like the big time academic schools, because academics are really important to me and that is what I'm looking for."

Slater was named second team all-district, first team all-county and academic all-state.

"If the right opportunity came along and that right school were to offer I could commit early," Slater said. "There is a chance that I could commit early, but I'm not really on any kind of time table or anything."
