Duke Offer A Big Relief For Jackson

Tony Jackson, a 5-foot-8, 185-pound athlete from Bishop Kearney High in Rochester, N.Y. picked up his first official offer last week when the Duke Blue Devils stepped up to the plate. Now Jackson is looking at his options and could be closing in on a decision.

"I felt great to get the offer," Tony Jackson exclaimed. " Most of the stress of recruiting is gone, because now I can say I am going to have the opportunity to be a college player.

"The offer really elevated my interest in the Duke program, and I am going to be going down in a couple of weeks to check out the school.

"Academics is number one for me, and even if Duke does not have a great football team I know that they will always be number one in academics.

"Duke initially offered me as an athlete, but I got a letter that said if I were to select Duke and come in as a defensive back, then I will be the only defensive back that they bring in this year. That was really impressive to me, so I would say that they are recruiting me more as a defensive back."

As a junior, Jackson rushed for 1,600 yards and 14 touchdowns. He is a two-time All-Conference selection, and was selected by the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle All-Greater Rochester Football Team and first team All-State.
