A Soft Commit For Tough In State Backer?

If there's anything the casual fan will learn by following recruiting, it's that there is nothing set in stone until the national letter of intent is faxed in. Another potential roller coaster recruitment could be beginning with an in-state prospect as of Wednesday night.

"I guess you can say I'm committed to Duke," says Webb High standout Justin Wilkerson. "I attended their team camp and really enjoyed myself."

That much is obvious as Wilkerson has nearly become the third commitment from the class of 2007 to join the Blue Devils.

"I think my commitment is pretty strong, but I am waiting to hear what East Carolina says about an offer. They have been recruiting me the longest and an offer from them would make me think."

Leaving the window open to the Pirates is something that certainly makes the Duke coaching staff nervous, but Wilkerson is quick to reaffirm his decision.

"They talked about what a commitment means. I talked to Coach Roof and Coach O'Brien about it, and I understand it."

Wilkerson, will begin his senior season with the Warriors as the rare four year varsity starter. Justin hopes to lead his team to a better showing in 2006 after a 2-9 season in 2005.

He measured out at just over 6-foot-3 and 211 pounds at last year's Shrine Bowl combine while running a 4.64 forty time at the event. Since that time he has added another inch and 15 pounds to his frame.

"I am being recruited to play line backer in college, so I know I need to continue to work on my strength."
