Duke Impresses Rising Florida DL Prospect

One of the fastest rising prospects in the Sunshine state is St. Augustine's Danny Russell. Recently Russell took the time to visit the triangle area and came quite impressed with the Blue Devils' program.

Danny Russell has been taking advantage of his time off this summer to travel. He's been to several colleges on unofficial visits in recent weeks.

"I went to Vanderbilt and Wake Forest," Russell said. "I also went to visit Duke and North Carolina. I really liked them all. I especially liked Duke and Wake Forest. Vanderbilt's an up and coming program with really nice facilities."

The St. Augustine (Fla.) Nease standout defensive lineman currently holds three scholarship offers.

"I have Louisville, Hawaii, and Western Michigan," he said. "I have a few 1AA offers too. Basically, I sent my highlight tape to 100 schools after the season and that's how I started getting the offers."

Russell, 6-foot-4 and 240 pounds, was invited to camps at two other schools but wasn't able to make it.

"Virginia Tech has been real interested and I was gonna go but I pulled my hamstring," he said. "Same with Northwestern. I'm not going to name a top five or anything until I get more offers -- until I have at least five."
