Duke Visit Impressed Wood

On Monday the Blue Devil coaching staff hosted one of California's biggest (and strongest) prospects when Poway (Calif.) DT Nick Wood was on campus. Wood caught up with Scout.com/TDD on Monday night to update his recruitment.

"The trip [to Duke] went as well as it could have," said Poway (Calif.) defensive tackle Nick Wood (6-2.5, 275). "We got to see Duke from every angle. If I were to choose them, I think it could be a great fit - on and off the field."

Wood, who is rated a three star prospect by Scout.com, saw his recruiting stock begin to shoot up after a junior season that yielded several honors including First Team All-Palomar League selection at defensive tackle for Poway in 2005.

While his natural position is defensive tackle, Wood was also been impressive on the offensive side of the ball. Away from the gridiron, he participates in the shotput and discus and is Poway's heavyweight wrestler.

Clearly a well rounded athlete, it's Wood's weight room numbers that have left a number of coaching staffs in awe. That's because he put up 185lbs a staggering 50 times at camp this summer.

At this time Wood has 11 offers, and hopes to have his list narrowed as his senior season approaches.

"Right now I'd like to take some visits on off weekends from school ball and then get it overwith around the middle of the season. But, if it takes longer, I'll do it after the season."
