Duke sophomore big man Josh McRoberts, who has had back problems that dated back to his junior season at Carmel High in Indiana, had back surgery on Thursday morning and will be sidelined for the next 4-6 weeks.
According to a source close to the situation, the procedure — which was routine — went well and Josh McRoberts
should be back on the court at least a month prior to the first day of practice.
The Blue Devils will begin their preseason workouts in approximately 10 weeks.
The 6-foot-10 McRoberts is expected to be the Blue Devils' top player this season. He opted to return to Durham for his sophomore campaign despite the fact that many NBA executives pegged him as a high lottery pick.
McRoberts averaged 8.7 points and 5.3 rebounds per game last season — which was third on the team behind J.J. Redick and Shelden Williams.
