Harris led all ground gainers with his 76 yards on 13 carries while both Justin Boyle and Aaron Fryer picked up 40 yards on 10 and 12 attempts, respectfully. Through the air, Marcus Jones hit on eight-of-19 passes for 92 yards while Thaddeus Lewis was nine-of-19 for 140 yards with a pair of touchdowns.
"There was some good contact, but the operation has got to get a lot better," said head coach Ted Roof. "Penalties, turnovers, things that we can control -- we've got to do a much better job with that. But overall I thought there were some good things on both sides, and I thought the effort was good for a first scrimmage. We've just got to continue to build and get better."
"Chestnut is a guy that we're counting on this year," commented Roof. "We feel like he's made some good strides for us, and now it's time to do it when he gets hit. I thought he handled it well today. Sheldon Bell, he just catches the balls that are thrown to him, and he's a big target."
