Hometown: Orange Park, Fla.
High School: Orange Park HS
Notes: As a junior, Sumlar rushed for nearly 700 yards on 90 carries. However, he's expecting bigger and better things for his final season at Orange Park.
"My goal is to have the kind of season that proves my doubters wrong. Some people don't respect our team and the level of football we play. I hope to prove them wrong this season."
Having only played high school football for two seasons, there is little doubt that the best is yet to come for Orange Park High standout and Duke commit Brian Sumlar. The 5-foot-9, 190 pounder who has bene clocked anywhere between the high 4.3 and low 4.4 range in the forty yard dash is quickly proving that the Blue Devils' eye for talent is as sharp as ever.
Through his first two games of the year, Sumlar's stock has shot up. In the season opener he rushed for 157 yards and a touchdown on 26 carries in leading the Raiders to the victory.
He was even better on the second game night against Forrest High. The Rebel defense, which is led by highly sought linebacker Brandon Hicks, was torched by Sumlar all night long to the tune of 198 yards and three scores (runs of 14, 5, and 68 yards).
