Duke never trailed in the contest by scoring the first six points en route to claiming a 29-12 advantage on Scheyer's layup at the 10:40 mark of the opening half. The Blue Devils used a 7-0 run in the final 1:35 of the half to claim a 51-24 lead at intermission.
Junior DeMarcus Nelson tossed in 13 points while rookie Lance Thomas and sophomore Martynas Pocius added 12 points each. Sophomore Josh McRoberts made five-of-six field goal attempts en route to scoring 11 points to go along with his eight rebounds, six assists, four steals and one blocked shot in 25 minutes of action. Freshman Brian Zoubek contributed nine points, 11 rebounds and two blocks.
Scheyer was seven-of-10 from the floor, sinking three three-pointers in six attempts. He added four assists, three boards and a pair of thefts on the evening. Thomas was credited with a game-best five steals while Pocius handed out a game-high six assists while making three three-point field goals in seven attempts.
For Shaw, Brandon Armistead came off the bench to score 20 points on eight-of-12 shooting from the field. Damola Obadina had six points, 14 rebounds, three steals and two assists.
The Blue Devils return to action on Saturday night with an exhibition game against N.C. Central. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
