Blue Devils Jump In For Drew

With only one recruit remaining on the recruiting board in the class of 2007, the Blue Devils have begun to assemble a wishlist of players for the class of 2008. Two targets have already been identified, and now you can add a third.

Though he has yet to hear from the Blue Devils, Woodland Hills (Calif.) Taft High School point guard Larry Drew certainly will soon. In fact as soon as college coaches can resume contact with players in the junior class, the 5-foot-11 Drew should be inundated with information from Duke.

The first public pronouncement that Louisiana's Greg Monroe, and California's Drew Gordon have company on the 2008 Duke recruiting target list came Thursday night as head coach Mike Krzyzewski showed up at Reynolds Coliseum specifically to watch Drew lead Taft High to another victory in the annual Glaxo Event.

After scoring nine points and dishing out 4 assists, Drew elaborated on the Blue Devils' perceived interest to Scout/TDD's Evan Daniels.

"I'm going to consider everyone that is looking at me, but I have other schools ahead of [Duke] at this point in time because they would be so far behind in recruiting me. If they were to just start recruiting me, I'm already looking at some other schools, but I'd definitely take a look at them."

Considered as the best available option at the point guard position in the class of 2008, Drew is considered a five star prospect and the No. 19 overall prospect in the nation according to Scout.

Dave Telep, Scout's National Recruiting Director, describes Drew as a "rare commodity - a young point guard with talent and an understanding for the position. He has a better feel for the game than many of point guards in college today, making great decisions and pinpoint passes. He has an accurate outside shot and can get in the lane when he chooses to attack the defense. He's got extremely long arms, good shoulders and a baby face. With continued development, and assuming just a little growth, we expect Drew to be an elite, high major prospect."

Stay tuned for more on Duke's budding recruitment of this high major prospect.
