McRoberts Powers Duke Past Temple

Josh McRoberts logged a career best 21 points along with nine rebounds, four assists, and four blocks to push Duke past Temple 73-55.

DURHAM, N.C. - Josh McRoberts continued his fine all-around play with 21 points, nine rebounds, four assists and four blocked shots as fifth-ranked Duke defeated visiting Temple, 73-55, at Cameron Indoor Stadium on Tuesday night.

Duke has now won 51 straight games at home versus non-conference opponents, the longest such streak in the nation. The Blue Devils improve to 13-1 on the year while the Owls fall to 6-6.

The Blue Devils closed the first half with an 18-4 run, turning a 24-17 deficit into a 35-28 lead at intermission. Midway through the second stanza, Temple cut the lead to eight at 47-39, but DeMarcus Nelson scored six points and McRoberts buried a three-pointer in a 9-2 Duke spurt that pushed the advantage to 15 at 56-41 with 9:08 left. Temple would get no closer than 13 the rest of the way.

DeMarcus Nelson contributed his second double-double of the year with 14 points and 11 rebounds while David McClure – inserted into the starting lineup for the first time this season – added a career-high 12 rebounds to go along with six points and two blocks.

Duke won the battle of the boards 49-28 posting season highs for rebounds and rebounding margin.

Dionte Christmas led the Owls with 15 points.

Duke opens ACC play on Saturday at 12 noon by hosting Virginia Tech.
