Lewis Shines In Saturday Morning Scrimmage

On Saturday the Blue Devils held their second full contact scrimmage of the season's Spring Practice session. Thaddeus Lewis led the way for Duke during the 80 play event by completing 22-of-28 passes for 275 yards and four touchdowns.

Beginning at the one yard line on the offense's first possession, Lewis calmly directed the offense down the field by completing seven of his eight pass attempts. The drive was capped off when Lewis found B.J. Smith over the middle for the first touchdown of the day.

Receivers Jomar Wright and Eron Riley hauled in touchdowns of their own, as did tight end Norm Gee. Riley finished with four catches for 80 yards, while Raphael Chestnut amassed 52 yards on three catches.

In addition to tossing a quartet of touchdowns, Lewis managed to throw 28 passes without an interception.

The running attack was led by tailback Clifford Harris, who logged 41 yards on 22 carries. Senior Tielor Robinson added 25 yards on 10 carries - often in short yardage situations. Robinson would add another 37 yards on four catches.

Defensively the Blue Devils earned six sacks as a team with Marvin Marcelin, Vincent Rey, Pontus Bondeson, Catron Gainey, Abraham Kromah, and Greg Akinbiyi all getting to the quarterback once. The tackle by Akinbiyi resulted in a safety.

Linebacker Tim Ball added a tackle for loss and a pass break up, while Gainey recovered the only fumble of the day.
