"I went to Duke for their spring game yesterday," Sands explained. "It was a gorgeous day out as it was about 80 degrees and I was able to sit in on an offensive line meeting with Coach (John) Strollo to see how they do things. He was very thorough in the meeting and they broke down a lot of film. I was able to learn a few things which is always a plus and it was obvious he had great knowledge of the position."
"After the offensive line meeting I was able to go to the locker room and meet with some of the players which was great," Sands said. "I was also able to meet my recruiting coordinator Coach (Peter) Vaas and some of the other coaches who I had only spoken to on the phone before, so that was a good time. I went up in the stands to watch the spring game and had a lot of fun doing so. It was by far the most impressive visit I've been on so far and I really got along with all of the players and coaches. The other thing that stood out to me was the atmosphere on campus. Everyone was just very nice and the campus itself was absolutely beautiful."
"I got to Navy on Thursday morning and met with Coach (Jeff) Monken straight away for a tour of the campus," Sands stated. "After that he let me sit in on a defensive line meeting and then took me over to meet with Head Coach Paul Johnson who talked about how they do things at the Naval Academy and what it meant to be a part of their program. I really loved what I saw there and it's definitely an option I'll think about down the line."
"I didn't get to Maryland until late afternoon because I came straight from Annapolis, but I was able to watch their practice which was fast paced and well organized. They really had a great practice and after that I went around campus for a bit. I enjoyed the visit, but didn't feel as comfortable there as I have on other campuses to be honest."
It had previously been reported that Sands was extended an offer by Michigan, however it turned out to be a miscommunication between the coaching staff in Ann Arbor. The Wolverine staff is however very interested in the Boyertown High standout and will be visiting in the upcoming weeks.
"I've got a busy week ahead of me from what I've been told," Sands added. "Coach (Steve) Szabo from Michigan is stopping down and may be bringing Coach (Lloyd) Carr with him. Duke, Georgia Tech, Maryland and Nebraska have also said they'd be stopping by this week. I've also been told that Boston College, Nebraska, Virginia, Navy, Northwestern and Penn State will be visiting this month, among others."
Sands benches 350 pounds, squats 515 pounds, and has a 27-inch vertical jump. He also reports a 3.7 core GPA and a 1710 SAT score.
