"Today I stopped at home before my workout and grabbed the mail on the way into the house and found a written scholarship offer from Coach (Al) Groh from University of Virginia," Sands explained. "That was what I thought to be the end of a very good day because previously Coach (Steve) Szabo from Michigan and Coach (Bob) Price stopped in around lunch to see me. Coach Price didn't mention the offer when he was at the school, so I think Coach Groh just wanted it to appear as coming from him given how personalized the offer letter was. I'm definitely excited about the Virginia offer, especially having visited their campus already and had the chance to witness what an amazing place it is. I get along great with the coach staff, the facilities are great and the campus and atmosphere there are amazing. The staff is looking to play me at either guard or center, which I have no problem with and Virginia just gives me a strong option."
"Then later tonight when I was sitting on the couch doing my homework I got a text from Coach D (Joe D'Alessandris) from Georgia Tech and it said that he had some big news for me and wanted me to give him a call back as soon as possible," Sands said. "When I called back he let me know that he had just gotten out of a coach's meeting and that they had a unanimous decision to offer me a scholarship based on my film and everything else they knew about me. They really think I'd be a great fit at Georgia Tech and from what I know they are a great football school that continues to develop a strong tradition. They also had some really great players and teams in recent years which is huge. The offer was very exciting for me to receive and I'm definitely very interested from what I've heard and what I'm looking forward to seeing at Georgia Tech."
Sands has named no favorites at this point and is completely open in recruiting, however he did specify the seven schools he'd like listed on his profile as Duke, Nebraska, Vanderbilt, Illinois, Connecticut, Virginia and Georgia Tech.
