Jersey Linebacker Seeing More Interest

When we last spoke with Nicholas Mistretta schools like Connecticut, Duke and Rutgers were hot on his trail, however his recruiting has been taken up a notch as of late. Mistretta and teammate Alexander DiSanzo are being recruited by many of the same schools and that's just fine with the Don Bosco Prep linebacker.

Maryland, Boston College and Northwestern have recently stepped up their efforts recruiting Ramsey, N.J., product Nicholas Mistretta, a 6-foot-2, 220-pound linebacker from powerhouse Don Bosco Prep. Mistretta is also being recruited by others such as Connecticut, Duke, Rutgers, Kansas State and the Ivys.

"It's really been the same schools coming in that Guy (Germinario) just told you about for all of us, but certain schools have talked to me," Mistretta said. "I've been talking to Maryland, Boston College and Northwestern recently and have also been hearing from Ivy League programs like Princeton and Columbia, so we'll see if they keep recruiting me when I get my SAT scores back which I take tomorrow."

Maryland - "Coach (Dave) Sollazzo wants Alexander DiSanzo and I to come down to camp together in June because they were very impressed with our film and watch to see us so they can evaluate the two of us in person. Hopefully we'll be able to make it down there, but it will be cutting it close because it's right after the Boston College camp I had already committed to being at. I don't know much about Maryland to tell you the truth. They really just came out of the blue."

Boston College - "I just spoke to Coach (Bill) McGovern the other day and they're also interested in having Alex and I up for camp this summer which I'll definitely be at. Boston College is a great mixture of academics and athletics and I've already been on campus a handful of times."

Northwestern - "They're another school that has just recently picked up steam with me and they're also interested in both me and Alex. They said they really liked our film and saw us as very similar players, so they'd love to get two Bosco kids. They're another school that has great academics and a very good program. I have met Coach (Pat) Fitzgerald recently and was able to speak with him briefly."

As a junior, Mistretta registered 65 tackles and three sacks on his way to second team All-County and first team All-North Jersey honors.
