Lockhart is getting looks from colleges on both sides of the ball. He reports that he is up for the challenge on either side of the ball, but he would prefer to play on offense if possible.
"Some schools are recruiting me as a cornerback and some as a wide receiver," said Jon. "I will play either one, but I am more comfortable at wide receiver because I have more experience playing that."
One of the most attractive things about Jon is his work in the classroom. Lockhart is expected to have no problems qualifying.
"They have all told me that I don't have to worry about my grades because I am pretty close to qualifying now," said Lockhart. "I just need to get my fourth year grades and I will be fine."
Of the schools that are pursuing Jon, he is targeting the schools that are widely known for their academic reputations.
"Georgia Tech and Vanderbilt are probably my favorites right now," said Jon. "They are both good football programs and they have good academics. I would put Duke in there too because they have real good academics too."
Lockhart has a working pecking order, but at this time he is not ready to make a decision. A verbal commitment is expected before the turn of the year.
"I was telling my parents that I am going to make a decision before the season or during the middle of the season," said Jon. "I am just not sure just yet which way I am going to go."
