Daniels A Top Georgia Prospect

The Peach State has always been good to the Duke recruiting efforts since head coach Ted Roof took over the program. That fact proved true again on Monday as the Blue Devils' top defensive back commitment earned high marks from the Scout.com state rankings.

Fayetteville (Ga.) Fayette County safety prospect Matt Daniels, who committed to Duke on April 3, is ranked as the 41st overall prospect in the talent rich state of Georgia according to Scout.com's experts. The 6-foot-1, 195lbs Daniels has already been classified as a three star prospect by the national recruiting analysts.

Shortly after committing to the Blue Devils, Daniels saw his recruiting stock explode with offers from powerhouse programs such as Georgia, LSU, South Carolina, Purdue, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, Clemson and Tennessee. However, he remains solid with Duke.

With several other programs hitting him hard with recruiting pitches, one would think the Blue Devils would continue their sales job. Instead Duke has been content to continue building a relationship - something Daniels is more comfortable with.

"We've already done all that [the recruiting process]. The coaches check in with me about once a week with just general stuff. They are more interested in how school finished up, or how my summer is going, or just to see what is new with me. The coaches aren't worried about recruiting, and they aren't needing to be concerned."

A 4.0 student throughout his high school career, Daniels once again finished a semester with perfect marks earning a 98, four 100s, and a 96 during the Spring.
