Blue Devils Chasing Connecticut RB

Boston, Mass., native Mike Cox currently holds four scholarship offers and is close to picking up more from some of the top programs in the nation. He recently attended camp at five schools, three of which he earned offers at, and hopes to have more in hand once his high school transcripts have been reviewed.

Mike Cox has been timed as fast as 4.40 in the 40-yard dash, 4.40 in the short shuttle, boasts a vertical leap of 36 inches and has a 10-foot-4 broad jump, so his athleticism is definitely something that college coaches have been extremely impressed with, especially considering it comes from a thick 6-foot, 205-pound frame. Connecticut, Boston College, Maryland and Duke have already offered the Old Farms School standout and Michigan and Penn State could be close.

"Connecticut, Boston College and Maryland have given me written offers and Penn State and Michigan have both told my head coach that they are just waiting on my transcripts before offering me," Cox explained. "Duke has also given me a verbal offer, but I would need to go down there and meet with the staff and academic personnel to make it a written offer. At this point those are the six schools that are really recruiting me the hardest."

Cox tripped around the country over the past several weeks, camping at Michigan, Penn State, Boston College, Maryland and Connecticut and talked about each experience with us recently.

Connecticut - "The camp went well and they definitely had the best weight room and facilities that I have seen so far. Their new indoor field was really nice and I really just liked everything about the campus. Coach (Matt) Cersosimo recruits me and offered me the scholarship after I camped there and we have been in contact twice a week at this point, usually by text messages. He's the type of guy that can talk about anything and everything and says they really like my combination of size and speed. Distance is not a factor for me in recruiting, but being close to home would be nice."

Penn State - "I really liked it at Penn State and while I didn't get to see the entire campus everything I did see was really nice, especially Beaver Stadium as it was the biggest I have ever been to. The staff said they were very impressive with my speed and athleticism during workouts, especially given my size. I like the tradition that Penn State brings to the table, plus they are great academically and put a lot of players in the NFL."

Boston College - "I toured the whole campus at Boston College and also saw the football facilities and just thought everything was really nice. I grew up in Boston and am from there, so I have always been a big fan of all of the Boston teams, Boston College included. They offer great academics which definitely makes them one of my top choices right off the bat and I like the fact that they always field a Top 25 football team. Coach (Mike) Siravo is my recruiter and I really like him as well."

Michigan - "I like Michigan a lot because, well they're Michigan. They have a great tradition of winning which plays a big role for me and also are known for their academics. Last year they were ranked in the top three all season and always seem to be right up there. The Big House was huge and while the campus was too big to see all of, I did like what I came across. The staff at Michigan was also great."

Maryland - "Maryland is another school that I really like and while I was there I was given a few tours of the campus and stadium which were all really nice. I really liked the entire coaching staff, including my recruiter Coach Kevin Lempa, and it really seems like they know what they're doing there. I like the fact that they have a close association with Under Armour and think it is pretty cool that their players have a television show right now."

As a junior, Cox rushed for over 1000 yards, averaging nearly 10 yards per carry and scoring 16 touchdowns. In the classroom he carries a 2.4 core GPA and reports a score of 1100 on his SAT.
