Curtis Hazelton (6'3, 244, 4.7), a defensive lineman from Roswell (Ga.) has committed to Duke according to sources close to the situation.

After camping with the Blue Devils over the summer and then weighing his options and collecting more offers, Roswell (Ga.) standout defensive end Curtis Hazelton has ended his recruitment with a commitment to Ted Roof's Duke Blue Devil program.

Sources close to the situation indicate the 6-foot-3, 245 pound Hazelton contacted his recruiting coach (Glenn Spencer) late Tuesday night with the good news.

The offer from Duke came in the last month, and Hazelton jumped on it, citing his relationship with Spencer and Duke's overall approach to his recruitment.

"They are being honest, and that's what you want from a program," Hazelton told TDD after his summer viist. "I've been in contact with Duke for a couple a months and they've always been straight with me when it came to this kind of thing."

In addition to camping with Duke, Hazelton had a chance to see the team away from the football field:

"They had a cook-out and all of those guys were great to talk to. They basically told me that at Duke you get the best of both worlds. You get to compete against the best conference in the country as well as getting one of the top five educations available anywhere. They also let me know the coaches really want me to come in and to just keep working."

That work has now paid off, and Hazelton has become the team's 12 verbal commitment from the class of 2008.

His best reported weight room numbers include a 300 pound bench press max and a 500 pound squat. His best time in the forty is 4.7 seconds.
