10 Big Days For Hoops Recruting

Elliot Williams, Greg Monroe, and Olek Czyz - all three offered by Duke - all three with visits soon

After spending nearly a month in Las Vegas guiding Team USA to the Gold Medal, Duke's Mike Krzyzewski stepped off an airplane at RDU on Sunday night and went straight to work on the recruiting front. Over the next 10 days the Blue Devils will be face to face with each of the their three offerees in the class of 2008. Williams Is On Campus:
After an extremely strong Spring, Collierville (Tenn.) St. George's star scoring guard Elliot Williams had his pick of top programs. By the end of the summer, however, the 6-foot-4 five start prospect had narrowed his list to four schools: Tennessee, Duke, Virginia, and Memphis.

Beginning today, September 7, Williams will be on campus in Durham for his official visit with the Blue Devils.

Early in the Spring, Williams was able to visit Durham unofficially in which he spent nearly 12 hours with the Duke coaching staff, an experienced that appeared to vault the Devils towards the top of his list.

"I spent a lot of time with Coach K, which was really nice, he's such a down to earth, really nice guy," Williams told TDD. "I watched that tape of Johnny Dawkins and we did a bunch of stuff, they really showed me around and I really enjoyed myself a lot. [Watching Dawkins' film], I'll admit, it was really cool to meet the man that was on the video that I was watching."

Most recruiting gurus feel Williams may slightly favor the Blue Devils and Volunteers over the other two schools. We asked him to compare and contrast those two schools earlier this year:

"I guess the best answer for me is that I feel like I can trust Coach K and Coach Pearl now that I've gotten to know them better. Style of play wise, I could see myself succeeding in both systems, although they are different in their own ways, both programs are appealing in many ways. I think as the process goes on and my parents and I really take even more of an in depth look at the schools that are gonna make my list."

Nation's Top Prospect Ready To Host Duke:
In one of the most high profile recruitments going, the nation's top rated prospect, 6'10 PF Greg Monroe, has kept things extremely close to the vest. The Louisiana native claims to have a final list of eight schools, but is unwilling to announce a full list of in-home visitors. Choosing, instead, to reveal only the imminent visits. The Blue Devils will get one of the fist shots with the five star big man as they will say goodbye to Williams and then hop a plane to Harvey, LA for a Sunday night in-home with Monroe and his family.

Cox High head coach Tyrone Mouzon reports: "After [Monroe] does his home visits and he'll narrow it down to 4-5 schools to do official visits. He and his family asked me not to give the information out as to who is coming in for home visits."

Czyz Recruitment Very Active:
The recruitment of Polish power forward Olek Czyz by Duke is heating up extremely quick. The 6-foot-7 athletic power forward out of Reno (Nev.) High (alma mater of David Padgett) had a long list and was thinking of cutting it to 5 but found that he was realistically only interested in the trio - Duke, Florida, and Louisville. However, some believe that list may just include the Cardinals and Blue Devils after the Gators accepted a commitment from Connecticut PF Allan Chaney in late August.

After spending time with Monroe and his family on Sunday, the Duke coaching staff will fly to Reno for a Monday visit with Czyz. Just four days later, the four star prospect will hop a plane of his own bound for Durham and next weekend's official visit.

When asked for him early impressions on Duke and Coach K, Czyz provided the following:

"Coach K speaks for himself, who he is and what he's done. I know they've had some guys and I think in a long distance run I'd be successful with them. He's a great teacher and probably the best coach in America."
