Murphy Dives Into The Process

Although just a rising junior, Erik Murphy already has a quality list of suitors. Recently the 2009 prospect took a visit to one of his top schools and he's in the process of planning another.

Erik Murphy admits that he's a long ways away from making his college decision, but that isn't stopping the 6-foot-9 rising junior from making college visits.

Two weeks ago Murphy took a trip to the University of Florida. Among the many activities planned on the unofficial visit, was the Florida versus Tennessee game.

"I liked it a lot," Murphy said of his trip to Gainesville. "It was fun. I went down and got there Friday night. Then on Saturday morning we ate breakfast with everybody and we watched them practice and went to the football game."

Murphy, who has already made unofficial visits to North Carolina and Duke, is planning his next trip for Marquette. The Southborough (Mass.) St. Mark's School standout has a tentative date scheduled for October 12th.

"I like Coach Crean a lot," Murphy said. "I like Coach Buckley and the whole staff. I haven't been up to their campus or met any of their players, so I'm hoping to do that."

To go with Florida and Marquette, Murphy is also getting strong interest from Virginia, Syracuse, Boston College, Louisville, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Pittsburgh, Marquette, Florida, UNC and Duke.

"Right now the two that are on me the hardest are Marquette and Florida," Murphy, who claims scholarship offers from both schools, said.

"I still have like 12 or 15 schools on my list. It really hasn't changed that much, but those two are coming the hardest. I'll find out who is really interested because we have an open gym and Sunday, so we'll see who comes to that."

Murphy's goal is to get his list to eight schools prior to the start of his high school season. He'll then examine the schools on his list and make a decision sometime before his senior season.

"I think I want to take some officials my senior fall, but as you know anything can happen. I think I'll do that and then probably decide before my senior season."
