Palmetto Sleeper Has Duke Among Favorites

We continue to bring you the best prospects here in the Palmetto State. White Knoll LB Alexander "Bear" Revels has helped his team to a 5-1 record and his numbers are quite impressive. A talented playmaker with superb grades, Revels has been hearing from colleges across the nation.

White Knoll High School has enjoyed its finest season of football in their history this season. Much of that success is due to senior LB Alexander Revels. "Bear" as he is known has produced strong numbers for the White Knoll defense and has made contributions as a TE for the offense. Revels is outstanding on the field but he also excels in the classroom. That rare combination is getting him looks from colleges across the country.

Revels talked a little about the success his team has had thus far in his senior season and also his best performance to date. "We are 5-1 and ranked 4th in the midlands. I feel that I have displayed strong points in all of my games, however, this past game against Lower Richland was my best. In this game I displayed my speed against the fastest running back that we have seen. I also was able to execute great pass coverage while I had an interception and a 28 yard return against a pass heavy team."

So far Revels has made 41 tackles, 1 sack, 1 interception, caused a fumble, and recovered a fumble on defense. On offense he's usually blocking but he's made his one reception count going for 25 yards. Last year during his junior season he made 55 tackles overall.

"Bear" talked with us about some of the key matchups remaining for White Knoll on the schedule. "This next week is our homecoming against perennial powerhouse, Aiken, and of course I'm really excited about that. But I am also looking forward to playing #18 Irmo because we are currently tied in the region. We also have our rivals, Lexington, at the end of the season."

Sporting a 4.1 GPA Revels could be a prime candidate for an academic scholarship to many prestigious schools but a handful of schools are loving him for his football talent as well as his academic strength. Revels says he is hearing from Princeton, Duke, Wofford, Furman, Appalachian State, Charleston Southern University, Air Force, and Citadel.

Revels shared with us his current list of favorites as well. "I like Furman, Wofford, Duke, Air Force, Citadel, and Princeton." He has also made visits to Wofford and talked about what he liked there. "They have a beautiful, clean campus with a tight knit community and lively crowd." It doesn't that they recently upset #1 ranked Appalachian State either and are making their mark in the FCS.

He doesn't have any offers yet but Revels continues to work on his game to try and show college coaches that they should be extending him an offer. Asked about his strengths Revels responded, "I have a great knowledge of football and easily pick up on tendencies. I can anticipate plays very well. I am a leader on my team and am able to even coach other players. I have great field vision and am able to quickly get to the football. I play to the best of my ability every second of every down. I am also very easy to coach." Yet he also remains humble and says there are areas he'd love to improve on as well. "I would like to improve my speed and agility and in doing so, improve my pass coverage."

The White Knoll standout already has an idea of what he plans to do on the next level when it comes to college as well. He named the most important factors for him in his recruitment. "Education is the biggest factor. I plan on becoming a podiatrist and therefore would need a school with a pre-med or biology major."

"I have set goals to finish out the rest of the season without another loss and win the region. I personally want to finish the season with the most tackles on the team and wouldn't mind another interception."

We also asked the standout student-athlete if he'd commit early if he were given the right offer and he said, "I am eager to find the right school and would readily consider committing early, however, as of now I have not had any offers so I'm not sure when I will make a decision."
