ACC Media Day: Singler Selected As ROY

Duke freshman forward Kyle Singler has been selected as the league's top rookie; while the Blue Devils were picked to finished second in the ACC.

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Freshman Kyle Singler was voted the ACC Preseason Rookie of the Year and Duke was picked to finish second in the conference at the league's annual media day Sunday here at the Grandover Resort. Fellow freshman Nolan Smith finished third for preseason rookie honors, as well.

North Carolina was picked to win the ACC Championship and the Tar Heels' Tyler Hansbrough was named preseason Player of the Year. The Tar Heels received all 64 first place votes. The Blue Devils received 29 second place, 23 third place, 10 fourth place and three fifth place votes for 653 points, edging out N.C. State by 12 points.

Singler, a 6-8, 220 lb. native of Medford, Ore., and the rest of the Blue Devils recently finished off their first week of official practice for the 2007-08 season, slated to begin Saturday, Oct. 27, with the annual Blue-White scrimmage. The scrimmage will air live on's Inside Access package with tip-off set for 7 p.m.

Duke fans can also see Duke's 2007-08 squad first hand as the Duke auction site recently added ticket packages for the first few games, including the Blue-White scrimmage.
