Michigan Athlete Has Duke Interest

Jamarcus Martin is one of the better athletes in West Michigan. Although his Mona Shores squad struggled this past season, Martin turned in another strong effort and is now looking at where he will play college football.

Jamarcus Martin may not necessarily be a household name in the state of Michigan. But the 6'2, 180-lb wide receiver/defensive back from Mona Shores is getting interest from some of College Football's top programs.

"I get a lot of mail from Wisconsin, Michigan State and Duke," Martin said, "and I've talked to recruiters from Wisconsin and Michigan State. I also get letters from Miami-FL."

The love from down south is nothing new for Martin as he took an unofficial to the Sunshine State earlier this season.

"I visited Florida over the summer, it was fun, it was unofficial, I got to talk to one of their recruiters but didn't talk to any coaches."

Martin has not been on any visits since, but noted that he will likely be in East Lansing visiting the Spartans and maybe as soon as this weekend. The interest from instate schools doesn't stop there though, as he also has connections to Allendale.

"My coach is from Grand Valley and I heard from them a lot during the season."

The Lakers picked up one player from Mona last year, freshman RB Lawrence Kimble. The Sailors struggled this year, but Martin was able to pick up some of the slack in the rushing attack with Kimble gone.

"Our team didn't do well, but I had a good season," he reported, "I had 879 yards rushing and 10 touchdowns and on special teams, I had 400 return yards and three touchdowns."

Although he played running back this season, that will almost certainly not be his spot in college.

"I think they're looking at me for special teams and wide receiver," he said, adding, "I don't have any offers yet, but I'm going to talk to the schools this week, sit down and talk about it."
