Texas DB Says Duke Is On Top For Now

Every season there are a number of guys who have ended their senior year without an offer. For whatever reason, they have managed to slip through the cracks. Aldine Eisenhower DB Brenden Owens is a player who fits this description. But, he has not given up on finding the right fit for him.

When you talk about players who are flying under the radar, Aldine Eisenhower defensive back Branden Owens is one of them. He is an athlete on one of Greater Houston's most talented squads and is still waiting on his first offer.

But he does have a few promising visits to some Division I and II schools lined up that could result in an offer.

"I do not have an offer right now, but I am getting some interest from Duke, Louisiana Tech, Arkansas, and Texas A&M-Kingsville (D2)," the 5-9, 175-pound Owens said. "I am set to go to a few of these schools over the next couple of weeks."

At the moment, Owens said that the Duke and Kingsville visit are already on the books. He recently took a trip over to Rice as well. Right now, Owens favors the Blue Devils.

"I would have to say that Duke is my favorite right now," Owens said. "They have a good tradition and the academics are great."

Owens describes himself as a "cover cornerback who is not afraid to tackle." This past season he had 59 tackles a game and 16 pass break ups. But all in all, Owens is just trying to find a place with a good balance of athletics and academics.

"I am trying to find a school that wants a good cover DB," Owens said. "I also want a good engineering program because that is what I plan to major in."
