Top 10 QB Verbals To Duke

If Blue Devil football fans needed any indication that new head coach David Cutcliffe's hiring represented a change in the program's fortune, Monday night's news of Sean Renfree's commitment was a big first step.

The news began trickling through back-channel sources late Monday evening before one media outlet finally caught up with Scottsdale Notre Dame Prep quarterback Sean Renfree to get the official word.

And the word was that Renfree informed the coaching staff at Arizona State that he would be attending Duke.

Soon after the news broke, Renfree's father confirmed the commitment with

"Sean just committed to Coach Cutcliffe at Duke. It was a tough decision because of his high regard for Coach Erickson and Coach Olsen, who were total class when it comes to recruiting kids," said Kevin Renfree of his son's recruitment. "He has no question that they will win the PAC 10 in the near future, but ultimately, he felt that the overall fit for him was better at Duke. Coach Cutcliffe and his OC, Coach Roper, also run a very favorable system for Sean, have a proven track record of developing QB's (Peyton and Eli Manning, Eric Ainge, etc) and have great vision for Duke."

Renfree becomes the most decorated recruiting prize in Cutcliffe's short tenure. The 6-foot-3, 205 pound signal caller is considered a four star prospect and the nation's 10th best quarterback.
