Blue Devils Offer Lex Butler

Blessed with outstanding athleticism and a tremendously high IQ 2009 CB Lex Butler received his first offer on Monday evening. Moments after learning of the offer he sat down with us for all the details regarding his offer and what other schools are on the radar.

You could hear the sound of excitement in 2009 CB Lex Butler's voice. Shortly after receiving his first scholarship offer we sat down with Butler and he talked about his initial feelings on the offer, what he loves about the program, and shared other programs that are highly interested and may be soon to follow with an offer.

"It feels great. I was surprised by it. Very surprised." That's what Lex Butler had to say after getting his first scholarship offer from the Duke Blue Devils. "They called and offered me. I talked with Coach Jones a good bit and Coach Cutcliffe too. Coach Cutcliffe was saying to come down and compete, that they (the Duke football program) would be nothing like the old Duke. That he'd teach me a few things on the high school level. He also said that the best players will play."

Having already visited the campus Butler offered his initial thoughts about what he likes most about the Blue Devils. "I really like the coaching staff, they have a lot of experience and many of them were pro coaches. Coach Cutcliffe loves to compete and he's a great coach."

The Blue Devils have one feather in their hat already because Butler's older brother, Lee, a 2008 prospect has already signed with the Blue Devils. Big brother actually may have tipped off little brother to the good news when the call was made. "Lee said he was really happy for me. Coach Jones called my mom and then she told Lee to call them and then I called them. Coach Cutcliffe got on the phone with me and Lee started to smile real hard so something was up that's when they offered."

A couple of other schools have started to press harder for Butler in the past few weeks as well. "Buffalo and Middle Tennessee are both coming pretty hard. They both want to see me in person before they decide on making an offer or not. MTSU wants me to come to their camp so they can evaluate me." Those two programs aren't alone in wanting to take a closer look at Butler's ability. "Clemson says they want to take a closer look at me too. I will probably go up there for their Spring Game."

Another ACC program who hasn't made a lot of contact to this point is a program of strong interest for the Westside star. "Wake Forest is another school that I'd really like to hear more from."

Ultimately Lex says having big brother Lee already on board won't play a big role in his recruitment necessarily. It sure doesn't hurt but we'll see in the end. SCPrepNation.com will have more updates on the fast rising 2009 prospect as things are just starting to heat up for him so keep it locked right here!

Lex has a 3.95 core GPA with a 4.619 overall GPA. He ranks 18th currently out of 363 students in his class.
