Duke Takes The Lead For Big Time Georgia DE

Brandon Putnam took an unofficial visit to Duke last weekend to take in their spring game. The defensive end, from Tyrone-Sandy Creek, (Ga.), was impressed with the game, and even more impressed with the mindset of the new coaching staff.

"It was a really good trip," Brandon Putnam said. "Coach [David] Cutliffe showed me everything they're doing. Things are really progressing there."

"They told me that at Duke it's the best of both worlds from an academic standpoint, and from a football standpoint. Coach Cutliffe says that he's not promising success; he's guaranteeing it."

Putnam will head to Auburn this weekend for the Under Armour/Scout.com Southeast Elite camp.

"I'm looking forward to my one on ones at the combine," he said. "I'm ready to go against my opponents, and showcase my talents. I'm ready to make a name for Brandon Putnam."

Putnam's top five is relatively the same, and he is adding a new team into the mix.

"I'd like to add Vanderbilt at the bottom of the list," he stated. "I've been talking coach [Des] Kitchings from Vanderbilt. They've been watching my film. He said they've had discussions about offering me."

"To be honest, I like all of the schools that I have in my top six. I'll still say that Duke is a slight leader though."
