Big Time DT Switches His Commitment

When he spoke with TDD/ earlier this week, Georgia DT John Drew indicated that this week's trip to Durham may very well end in a commitment. That possibility became a reality on Friday night.

Sources close to the situation confirmed late Friday that Drew, a 6-foot-3, 295lbs defensive tackle prospect, had offered his pledge to head coach David Cutcliffe and his staff.

Rated as a three star prospect and the nation's number 34 defensive tackle, Drew becomes the third member of the class of 2009 to join the Blue Devils.

Prior to the visit Drew told TDD that the academics and athletic combination offered by Duke and Cutcliffe could be too much for him to pass up.

"With Duke it's pretty much the opposite of Georgia Tech. The campus is a lot more inviting and there is no better choice for getting the kind of education I want. On the field, Duke hasn't had a lot of success, but they have changed everything and have brought in a great coaching staff that has what it takes."

Despite his mammoth frame, Drew is pretty quick, logging a personal best forty time of 4.87 seconds during various camp sessions as well as a 34-inch vertical leap.
