"I've always liked Duke," Dawkins said. "That was a goal of mine back when I was in eighth grade. My parents asked me and I said I want to go to Duke and I've just been working. It's a dream come to true to see all the hard work pay off."
Dawkins, who averaged just over 24 points a game last season, had scholarship offers from a host of programs, but ultimately picked Duke over Maryland and Georgetown.
"I just felt comfortable there," the 6-foot-4, 192-pound SG said. "That was just the right fit for me."
Dawkins had always planned on waiting out the process, but when he received an offer from Duke and took a trip to their campus, things changed.
"I think it was the visit," Dawkins said. "Going down there I wasn't really planning on [committing]. They blew me away."
The 2010 standout is ranked as a four-star prospect on Scout.com. He is the first member of the 2010 class to commit to the Blue Devils.
