Virginia Athlete Makes Eight For Duke

Head coach David Cutcliffe's eighth commitment from the class of 2009 comes in the form of a 6', 185 pound free safety prospect from Richmond (Va.) Monacan High School.

Sources close to the situation confirm that Virginia's Garett Patterson has committed to Coach Cutcliffe and the Blue Devils.

Measuring out at an even six feet high and tipping the scales at 185lbs, Patterson spent the summer camp circuit grading out as one of his District's top overall athletes - clocking in with a 4.56 forty time, a 4.47 shuttle run, and a 39.3 vertical jump.

It was that sort of elite athleticism that propelled Patterson to a great junior season that saw him record 85 tackles, three interceptions, and 12 pass break-ups for Monacan. Good enough to make First Team All-District.

Schools such as Delaware, Virginia, and James Madison had extended offers, while Virginia Tech was also checking in regularly, but it was the Blue Devils who won the race.

At Duke, Patterson projects as a free safety.
