Boynton remains one of the top 10 prospects in the country according to Dave Telep and Scout.com after a stellar summer that saw him team with 2010 point guard prospect Brandon Knight to lead Team Breakdown to a handful of national level AAU championships.
The Blue Devils will be the first of several visitors making their way to visit with the five star prospect. After Coach K and his staff depart, Boynton will host Florida's staff. Visits with Memphis, Georgia Tech, and Texas are also expected.
Until the contact period opens up Krzyzewski and his staff are unable to travel, but can host prospects who travel to Duke on their own. Such was the case today, September 2nd, when local power forward and five star prospect Ryan Kelly visited campus with his parents to discuss his interest in Duke. Impromptu pickup games and discussions with the coaching staff appeared to highlight the visit with Kelly, who had not been offered prior to his visit.
The future recruitment of Kelly will likely hinge on where the 6-foot-10, 205lbs big forward fits in with the current and future Blue Devil frontcourt players such as Olek Czyz, Miles and Mason Plumlee, as well as then to be seniors Lance Thomas, and Brian Zoubek.
Speaking of Mason Plumlee, the first Blue Devil commitment from the class of 2009 will make his official visit to Durham on Sept 12. The timing corresponds with a pair of unofficial visits from 2010 prospects Josh Hairston and Tyler Thornton - both of whom will be on campus that weekend with their parents. Coincidentally both players have expressed a desire to make early commitments with Hairston potentially targeting a date in the next six to eight weeks.
