Taylor Sowell Commits

The positive momentum of Duke's 2-1 start has spilled over into the recruiting world as three star cornerback Taylor Sowell has verbally committed to Duke.

"I called the coaches this afternoon to make it official [for Duke]," said Spartanburg (S.C.) defensive back Taylor Sowell. "I visited for the Navy game and am sure that's where I want to be."

Sowell, who is rated as the nation's number 53 cornerback and a three star prospect, was at one time committed to the North Carolina Tar Heels, but after deciding to forego his opportunities in Chapel Hill Sowell began hearing from Duke.

"Coach [Derek] Jones and I started talking after I decided not to go to UNC. He really made it clear how much Duke wanted me to come in and once I visited, I was comfortable with being a Blue Devil."

So with one change of heart under his belt, should Duke fans be concerned about Sowell playing somewhere other than Durham for the 2009 season?

"I'm going to take a few other visits, but I'm solid with Duke."

Sowell chose Duke over scholarship offers from Georgia Tech, Miami, Virginia, and West Virginia. He is eligible for a January college enrollment.
