Storylines For Loyola:
How They Got Here:
After routing both UNC-Asheville and Top 10 opponent Xavier in back to back games, the Blue Devils went home for the holidays for an 11 day layoff. To date Duke has registered a 10-1 overall record.
Meanwhile Loyola enters the game with a 4-8 overall record, but coming off a near upset of North Carolina State on Monday night in Raleigh. In that game the Greyhounds stretched the Wolfpack to limit forcing State to come up with a key defensive stop with a minute remaining. Jamal Barney and Marquis Sullivan combined for 41 points on 17-of-35 shooting in the losing effort.
This will be the fourth meeting between the two programs. The Blue Devils have won all three previous meetings including two games in the NCAA Tournament - most recently a 66-63 victory in the Atlanta Regional Final in 2004. Overall the Blue Devils have played 100 games against teams from the Atlantic 10 - winning 73 of those contests.
Duke returns from the long break healthy and with all players available..
Youth Movement For Loyola:
With a total of 10 freshmen and sophomores on the roster the Greyhounds are in the process of learning the ropes of Division I college hoops. No senior on the roster played more than 15 minutes in a game and underclassmen played 356 of the 400 minutes. All told, eight Greyhounds who did not play in Loyola's ? nal game last season are seeing minutes.
Make Sure To Lookout For...
Jamal Barney, who has been on a scoring tear. After scoring just 66 points during the first six games of the season, Bradley has scored 112 in the six games since (18.7). Since moving into the starting lineup eight games ago, Barney has scored in double figures in seven of the eight contests. In addition to the scoring outbreak he's grabbing 6.5 rebounds per game.
Similarly, junior guard Brett Harvey has scored in the last five games including a career high 27 against Niagara. Harvey has become the team's best option to put on the line - ranking ninth nationally at 92 percent. Four times this season he has made nine or more free throws in a game including 13-for-13 against Niagara.
After another long lay-off the Blue Devils return to action looking to shake off the rust and make some last minute adjustments before heading into the conference season on Sunday against Virginia Tech. Look for Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski to continue to define his rotation for the season and look for the Blue Devils to have this one safely in the win column before halftime.
